Our Story

Shelley and TrudieChrome is the food dream of sister’s Shelley and Trudie Robinson. Growing up on a New Zealand farm, the pair were surrounded by nature and able to experiment, create and master tasty, nutritious dishes from an early age. In addition to this, they learned to make jam, preserves, and chutneys and became innovative and original bakers. The sisters recently reached top five in Masterchef NZ which offered an opportunity for the pair to follow their aspirations and open Chrome.

The team at Chrome are a passionate bunch of foodies. We love providing opportunities for people to realise their food dreams as Shelley and Trudie have realised theirs. A big dream of the family is to create a business that embraces employment opportunities for people with special needs, as we are passionate about true inclusiveness for differently abled people. We are committed to supporting the local community and the next generation.

The decor of the café shows Shelley and Trudie’s love of 1950’s retro trends. The era also inspired the name, Chrome. The definition of Chrome is “to plate”, which acknowledges the care that our team takes to ensure our food and beverages not only taste delicious but are beautifully presented as well. The retro flair adds to the fun, relaxed atmosphere that makes Chrome the perfect place for a quick bite, long lunch, or champagne brunch.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
